Sorry I have not posted lately. This season has been unlike any I have seen. Oak Forest actually went 1-1 two weeks ago. Silliman had to cancel the game scheduled with OFA. The MAIS granted the Yellow Jackets an 18-0 forfeit win. OFA found a game against Riverfield Academy at 4:00 Friday the 11th. They drove to Rayville and played Saturday and lost 25-7. Last week the Jackets played JA. JA beat the Jackets 42-7 in a game that I felt was closer than the score. OFA travels to Hartfield this Friday.
It is difficult to understand how all the forfeits will affect the play offs. Take Lamar and ACCS for example both teams are 3-2. ACCS has 21.2 power points; Lamar has 23.2 power points. ACCS got beat by Prep; Lamar shows an 18-0 forfeit. Just not sure how it is all counted. If anyone can give clarification please do.
I haven't gotten to look at the schedule for this week does anyone have any games of interest to them.
In olden days (1940's & earlier) if a team couldn't field a team for a game for whatever reason (sometimes because of flu or another illness) the other team was awarded a forfeit win. Possibly MAIS is going by precedent... I don't know. In any case, to me at least, it makes sense of a nonsensical situation. Kids are rarely and if at all, barely affected by this virus. What other option is there for having a structure for determining which teams will be eligible in the end to qualify for playoffs?
I am not sure what the answer is. The first two weeks we were not penalized for not being able to play. I was just pointing out how the situation worked differently for those two teams.
