With no basketball games or baseball games being played last night; it made me think of two funny stories that happened in my 32 years in the association. Feel free to post some of yours.
I was coaching junior high girls basketball. I think every coach should have to coach junior high girls' basketball at least once in their career. It was a close game and the other team had fouled us. We should have been in the bonus. The refs did not catch it. I had tried to explain that we should have shot free throws. At the next dead ball it is a correctable error and could have been fixed. Well they did not recognize me at the next dead ball. After a while I guess they realized I was right. They called both coaches to mid court and said my team was going to be able to shoot a one and one. Well this is not the correct call, but it went in my favor so I said ok. The other coach got upset and was justified. They then informed us that it had happened so long ago that the they could not remember the girl who was supposed to shoot. They asked me to pick a player; so I picked my best one. The other coach lost it and said he should get to choose and he wanted to choose the player on my bench who was eating a cheeseburger. I turned around sure enough there was a player eating a cheeseburger. That is when I had to put the rule in no eating on the bench.
\The next story is on baseball. I was not there but CenReb was, so correct me if I get the details wrong. The school we were at was playing in Parklane's spring break tournament. Well it had been a chance of rain so Parklane had the tarp on the field and asked our team to help get it off the field. CenReb was close to Bruce; if you have been around sports at Parklane you know Bruce. He is a great guy. Bruce gets tripped up and goes under the tarp. Someone shouts man down we lost Bruce. No one hears that Bruce is down. Once the tarp is stretched out Bruce crawls out on the other side and tells ever one he is OK.
I hope everyone has a good Friday and a good weekend. Good luck to all teams participating in the state semis.
